Privacy policy

Last updated 28 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use our website, get a price or book a collection, how we use it, and your rights. You can read a short summary of your rights on our data rights page.

The short version

  • We use your photos and details to price and carry out your collection. We remove location data from your photos, and our AI assistant never sees your name or contact details.
  • We keep photos and chat details to provide your collection and to improve our quoting service. You can object, or ask us to delete them, at any time.
  • To see, correct or delete your information, or to ask a person to review your price, email hello@junkireland.com.

Who we are

Glass Bag Recycling Ltd, trading as Junk Ireland, is the controller of your personal information. This means we decide how and why it is used.

  • Company number: 669725
  • Registered address: 35 Ashford Street, Dublin 7, D07 N8F8, Ireland
  • Email: hello@junkireland.com

For any privacy question or request, email hello@junkireland.com.

What we collect

  • Chat messages: what you type to our chat assistant, including your description of the items, and any items you add, remove or change on your price card.
  • Photos: the photos you send of the items you want removed. Photos can show parts of your home and anything else in the frame. We remove location data from photos.
  • Location: your county and Eircode, which set your call-out and labour charge, and your collection address.
  • Contact details: your name, mobile number and email address, when you give them to us. Our team may call your mobile about your price or booking, and the crew uses it on collection day.
  • Booking details: your price and the items listed on it, your collection date and time, any access arrangements, and notes about the collection.
  • Payment records: the amount, date and status of payments and refunds. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details.
  • Messages with us: emails you send us, collection support requests in the chat, and notes we make about your booking.
  • Technical information: your IP address, browser and device type, and a session identifier. We use these to keep the chat working and to protect the service from abuse.
  • Website usage: the pages you view and the actions you take on the site, collected without cookies.
  • How you found us: when you start a chat, the first page you opened on our website, the name of the website that sent you (for example google.com, never the full web address), any campaign tags in the link you followed, and whether a Google advertising click marker was present. We retain that last signal as yes/no evidence, never the advertising identifier itself. We do not store anything on your device for this, and we do not collect it if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
  • Advertising measurement (only if you accept the Google Ads cookie): whether you came from one of our Google ads, and, if you book, the booking reference and value.
  • Marketing preferences: whether you have agreed to receive marketing emails, and any request to stop them.

How our AI assistant works

The chat on our website is an automated assistant, not a person. You can ask for a person at any time.

Our AI assistant identifies what's in your photos. Our published price list sets the price. A person checks anything big or unusual.

When you ask for a price, your photos and your description of the items are analysed by an AI model provided by Anthropic. The model identifies the items and how many there are. We send the model your photos, your description of the items and your county. We do not send it your name, phone number, email address or collection address.

The AI does not set the price. Our system prices each item from our published price list. You see every item before you book, and you can change the list. Your price is then worked out again from the price list. Large jobs, business jobs, jobs with items that are not on our price list, and jobs where the photos or description are unclear are checked by a person before we confirm the price.

You can ask a person on our team to review your price at any time before you book. Email hello@junkireland.com to reach a person.

Anthropic processes this information as our service provider. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic does not use it to train its own AI models.

Why we use your information

Data protection law says we must have a legal reason, called a lawful basis, for each way we use your information.

  • To give you a price (chat messages, photos, any changes you make to your list, county and Eircode, and your email address if you want the price sent to you). Lawful basis: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
  • To book and carry out your collection (contact details, collection address and booking details). Lawful basis: performing our contract with you.
  • To take payments and make refunds (payment records, and your name and email address, which we share with Stripe). Lawful basis: performing our contract with you, and our legal obligation to keep financial records.
  • To send you service emails, such as your price, booking confirmation, receipt and updates about your collection, including a reminder the day before. Lawful basis: performing our contract with you, or taking steps before a contract.
  • To follow up a price you asked us to email. If you do not book, we send one reminder about 2 hours later, between 09:00 and 21:00. Our team may also phone you, if you gave us your mobile, or email you about that price. You can stop the reminder with the link in the email, and ask us not to call. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in following up a price you asked for. You can object at any time.
  • To reply when you contact us, by email or through collection support in the chat. Lawful basis: taking steps before a contract, performing our contract with you, or our legitimate interest in answering your questions.
  • To improve our automated quoting service (photos, chat messages and booking details from past jobs). Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in making our prices more accurate. You can object to this at any time.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent fraud and abuse (technical information and payment records). Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in protecting our business and our customers.
  • To understand how people use our website and how they find us (website usage, collected without cookies, and how you found us). Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in improving the website and our advertising.
  • To measure which of our Google ads lead to bookings (advertising measurement), only if you accept the Google Ads cookie. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
  • To send you marketing emails, only if you have agreed to receive them. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To meet our legal obligations under tax, accounting, waste and consumer law, and to deal with legal claims. Lawful basis: legal obligation, and our legitimate interest in establishing or defending legal claims.

How long we keep your information

We keep quote photos, chat messages and booking details to provide your collection, handle any follow-up or dispute, and improve our automated quoting service. Where we use past jobs to improve the service, we work to remove details that identify you (like your name and contact details) from that material. You can ask us to delete your personal information at any time by emailing hello@junkireland.com, and we will delete it unless we legally have to keep it (for example, financial records, which Irish law requires us to keep for 6 years).

  • Booking and payment records: 6 years, to meet our legal obligations.
  • Open disputes or claims: we keep the information needed until the matter is resolved.
  • Marketing: we stop sending marketing emails 12 months after your last booking. We keep a record of any request to stop marketing, so that we can respect it.
  • Technical information: only as long as needed to keep the service secure.

Who we share your information with

We use service providers to run our website, chat, payments and bookings. They act as our processors. They may only use your information on our instructions, and they must keep it secure.

  • Supabase: our database and photo storage, hosted in the EU. It also limits how often requests can be made, to protect our service from abuse.
  • Vercel: hosts our website.
  • Anthropic: provides the AI model that analyses your photos and item descriptions.
  • Stripe: processes payments and refunds.
  • Resend: sends our emails.
  • PostHog: website analytics, hosted in the EU.

Stripe also uses some payment information as an independent controller, for example to prevent fraud and to meet its own legal obligations. Stripe's privacy policy explains how.

If you accept the Google Ads cookie, Google Ireland Limited receives advertising measurement information as an independent controller. See Cookies and analytics below.

Our collection crew sees the details they need to do the job, such as your name, address, mobile number, any access arrangements and the items to collect.

We may also share information with our professional advisers, with public authorities such as Revenue when the law requires it, or where it is needed to establish or defend a legal claim.

Transfers outside the EEA

Some of our service providers, including Anthropic, may process your information outside the European Economic Area (EEA), for example in the United States. When this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards.

Cookies and analytics

We use one cookie of our own. It links your chat and price to your browser, so that you can come back to them. It lasts up to 30 days. The chat needs this cookie to work, so we do not ask for consent to use it.

Our website analytics (PostHog, hosted in the EU) are set up so that they do not store cookies or similar identifiers on your device. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, our website does not collect analytics in your browser.

When you pay, Stripe may set cookies that it needs to process your payment and prevent fraud.

Google Ads cookie (only if you accept). When you first visit, we ask whether we may use a Google Ads cookie. If you choose Accept, we load Google's advertising tag. It stores cookies on your device, named _gcl_au and _gcl_aw, for up to 90 days. They tell us when someone who clicked one of our Google ads books a collection, and the booking value. Google may also use its own cookies on Google websites for this.

We do not use this cookie to show you ads, to build advertising audiences or for remarketing. If you choose Reject, or make no choice, we do not load the tag and nothing is sent to Google.

Google Ireland Limited uses this information as an independent controller, under Google's privacy policy. Google may process it outside the EEA.

We keep your choice in your browser for up to 6 months, then ask again. You can change it at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. If you change to Reject, we delete the Google Ads cookies on our website.

Marketing emails

We only send you marketing emails if you have agreed to receive them. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us to stop at any time by emailing hello@junkireland.com.

Emails about your price or booking are not marketing, so we send them whether or not you have agreed to marketing.

Your rights

You have these rights over your personal information:

  • Access: get a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Rectification: have information that is wrong or incomplete corrected.
  • Erasure: have your personal information deleted.
  • Restriction: limit how we use your information, for example while we check that it is correct.
  • Objection: object to us using your information based on our legitimate interests, including using your past job to improve our quoting service. You can object to marketing at any time.
  • Portability: receive the information you gave us in a common, machine-readable format, or have it sent to another organisation.
  • Human review: ask a person on our team to review a price our system worked out, and give us your point of view.
  • Withdrawing consent: where we rely on your consent, withdraw it at any time.

To use any of these rights, email hello@junkireland.com. To protect your information, we may ask you to confirm your identity, for example with the email address or mobile number you used and your booking details. We reply within one month. If your request is complex, we may need up to two more months, and we will tell you if so.

Some rights have limits. For example, we cannot delete financial records that Irish law requires us to keep.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission, the Irish data protection regulator, at dataprotection.ie.

How we protect your information

We store photos in private storage that is not publicly accessible, and we limit access to the people who need it to do their job. Our service providers must keep your information secure. No online service is completely secure, but we review our systems and providers to keep the risks low.

Children

Our service is for adults. You must be 18 or over to book a collection. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will publish the new version on this page with the date it took effect.
