Clearing out in Tallaght: what usually goes
Tallaght is built largely around estates of family houses: Kilnamanagh, Old Bawn, Jobstown, Killinarden, Fettercairn and many more. Apartments cluster around The Square and the Luas, Citywest has grown into a district of its own, and newer estates climb towards the hills at Kiltipper and Ballycullen. Busy family homes produce a lot of stuff, and the wheelie bin only takes so much.
In the estates, a clear-out usually starts out the back: a shed that has started to lean, a second fridge in the garage that finally gave up, broken garden furniture. A fridge-freezer is €45, a washing machine €30 and a large wooden shed €175.
Sheds, garages and the second fridge
Sheds are priced by size, from €110 for a small wooden one, and whatever is inside goes on the same price as separate lines: bags of garden waste at €5, a lawn mower, the bikes. Photograph the shed from outside, then open the door and photograph the contents.
Garages tend to hold the appliances that were replaced but never removed. A tumble dryer is €20 and a cooker €30. We can't take soil, stones or broken paving, so leave those out of the photos.
Ballymount Civic Amenity, and where we fit
South Dublin County Council's recycling centre is Ballymount Civic Amenity on Ballymount Avenue, Greenhills, run by a contractor for the council. Domestic fridges, freezers and other electrical appliances are taken free. Bulky household waste, like furniture, carpets, beds and sofas, is charged.
So if you can lift an old fridge into a car, Ballymount is the obvious place for it. A sofa, a shed's worth of garden furniture or a full house is where two loaders and a van make the difference. (Council details checked October 2026; see the council's page for opening times and charges.)
