Carpet removal prices
Carpet is priced by area: €2 per m², plus the €100 call-out and labour charge in Dublin. Underlay is priced at the same per-m² rate, so count it too if it is going. Laminate, engineered wood and solid wooden flooring is €6 per m², because it is heavier and bulkier. Every price includes VAT and is on our price list.
Pricing by area means a box room costs less than a through-lounge, and the one number you need is the area going.
How to measure a room
- 1Measure the length and width of the room in metres, wall to wall.
- 2Multiply them. A bedroom 4 m by 3 m is 12 m².
- 3Split an L-shaped room into two rectangles and add them together.
- 4Add bays, alcoves and the strip in each doorway.
- 5Add up every room that is being cleared.
Rough is fine. Give the total to the nearest square metre and the assistant prices that area from the list.
Worked example: a three-bed semi
Use this five-area measuring example to work out your own total:
- Living room, 4.5 m × 3.6 m: 16.2 m²
- Main bedroom, 3.8 m × 3.4 m: 12.9 m²
- Second bedroom, 3.4 m × 2.8 m: 9.5 m²
- Box room, 2.4 m × 2.2 m: 5.3 m²
- Stairs (13 steps) and landing: about 7 m²
Measuring stairs
Measure one step: the depth of the tread plus the height of the riser. Multiply that by the width of the carpet, then by the number of steps.
For example, a 25 cm tread and a 19 cm riser make 0.44 m. With carpet 90 cm wide, each step is about 0.4 m², and 13 steps come to about 5.1 m². Measure the landing as a separate rectangle and add it on. Winder steps, the wedge-shaped ones at a turn, are wider at one end: measure each at its widest point.
Lifting, cutting and rolling
Our price covers carrying the carpet out and taking it away, so have it lifted before the day, by you or by the fitter laying the new floor. If you are doing it yourself:
- Cut it into strips about a metre wide with a sharp utility knife, working from the back.
- Roll each strip tightly, pile side in, and tape it. Short rolls are far easier to carry than one long one.
- Roll the bigger pieces of underlay and bag the scraps.
- Pull up underlay staples left in the floorboards with pliers.
- Wear gloves, knee pads and a dust mask, and open a window.
Laminate, vinyl and tiles
Laminate clicks apart board by board: stack the boards flat and bundle them with tape. Pull the nails out of old floorboards, or bend them flat, before you stack them. Vinyl and lino can be rolled like carpet. Carpet tiles lift by hand and stack flat, and they are priced per m² like roll carpet.

Fitter or collector?
Some carpet fitters take the old carpet away as part of the job, sometimes for a charge. Ask when you get their price, and compare it with the per-m² price here.
Remember that our call-out covers the whole collection. New flooring usually means the room is being redone, so a double bed frame (€30), a mattress (€30) or an old wardrobe (€45) can go on the same visit at their list prices.
Getting the rolls out
Rolls of carpet are heavier than they look. In a red-brick terrace in Phibsborough or Stoneybatter, short, tightly taped rolls get round the turn at the bottom of the stairs; in an apartment block they need to stand upright in the lift. Two loaders carry the rolls from any floor and sweep up before they leave.
We collect on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, 14:00–16:00. Someone needs to be home, or access agreed in advance, such as the rolls left in a porch or garage.
